Tanzania has launched a multi-partner Development Information Centre, the Tanzania Development Information Centre – TDIC. The TDIC becomes a one-stop-shop for development information thus providing economies of scale to information dissemination and access. The TDIC established as an adjunct to the Tanzania Development Learning Centre, a member of over 120 GDLN Centres (www.gdln.org) using interactive distance learning techniques for development creates complimenting pivotal hub for development information.

During the Launching Ceremony held on 26th May 2005, the guest of Honour, the Chief Secretary Mr. Marten Lumbanga assured the Tanzanian Government support to the initiative.

The Tanzania Development Information Centre (TDIC) is a partnership initiative of multilateral and bilateral agencies, administered by Tanzania Global Development Learning Centre (TGDLC) at The Institute of Finance Management (IFM). The TDIC has been established to promote the use and access to knowledge in order to improve the effectiveness of development programs in Tanzania. Using the Centre’s resources, the public, students, researchers and policy makers have access to a wide range of information on development.

The TDIC involves collaboration with individuals, groups and institutions, through direct Contribution, conducting development dialogues at TDIC or connect to partners worldwide through the Global Development Learning Network (GDLN - www.gdln.org). Partners can also sell publications on consignment, donate books, CD-ROM & Videos to the Library, or place their brochures for free distribution, and can exhibit their displays on TDIC display panels.

The TDIC is expected to create a one-stop centre for public access to information on development issues. It will provide a better understanding of development projects, facilitate effective engagement of stakeholders by enhance openness and effective feed-back. The Centre is also expected to enhance informed decision making, enable wider dissemination of achievements and lessons learnt and provide further capacity for more participants through video-conference.

Timing
The Centre opens its services as follows:

Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Saturday – Sunday and Public Holidays (remain closed)

Referencing
The TDIC books,periodicals and all publications are for reference only. Libraries may borrow through its inter-library exchange loan system.
